
The average person spends most of the day at work. The degree of satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the time spent at work does not only affect these “office” hours. It can drag behind us during our rest periods and affect our overall state of satisfaction. That’s why it’s important to be as happy as possible at work. Sometimes small changes can bring very positive results.
1. Keep your personal problems to yourself
Everything falls on our heads and we don’t know how to deal with private matters. It can be overwhelming and jeopardize our efficiency on all fronts, including at work. If the matter is serious, it must be taken seriously. Especially if the problem concerns our family or close friends. However, if the case does not fall into the “catastrophe” category, it is worth leaving it behind the front door when entering the office in the morning. Return to it after finishing work. This can have a double positive effect. First, personal problems will not affect your performance at work. Secondly, taking a break from worrying about an unpleasant matter can bring you relief. When you are done with your work, you can come back to this issue with a fresh perspective and perhaps find a new solution. The same principle works both ways, so leave work-related stress in the office.
2. A healthy lifestyle and hydration can do a lot
It is amazing how much influence what lands in our body can have on the way we function while we work. Starting from the level of concentration to endurance and overall attitude. Sugar and carbohydrates can give us a feeling of heaviness and the feeling that emailing us is beyond our ability. Although office kitchens usually have their limitations, it is worth trying to plan your lunch to include whole grains, vegetables, lean meat or fish, and fruit, and plenty of water. It is also recommended to limit coffee consumption.
3. Make sure you have a personal space
Most of us spend at least eight hours at work and, especially if we work in an open plan office, at the end of the day, we may feel irritated by the lack of privacy. This is not surprising – many of us spend more time in the office than at home (not including time to sleep). Lack of personal space can be a bit exhausting. However, you can always try to arrange your piece of office in a way that gives you a minimal sense of “familiarity” (within the limits allowed by company policy). Make sure the chair and desk are comfortable. Ergonomic accessories such as a chair cushion are not expensive and even if the company does not provide them, it is worth investing in them out of your own pocket. Small decorations can also help you feel more comfortable in the office: photos, clippings, books, your own mug or a plant are what most businesses accept.
4. Reward yourself
If you are doing well at work today, why would you not reward yourself with something you like? The award should be something unrelated to work and something that you will enjoy. After-work drinks with friends, swimming pool, hairdresser, tasty dinner can make you feel that your work-free time balance is positive. There is nothing worse than feeling stuck in a work-home, home-work cycle.
These are just a few examples of what we can do to make our work “easier for us”. We can add to this regular departure from the desk (just without exaggeration!) To rest your eyes and provide yourself with light movement, good organization (thanks to this you will feel that you have control over your duties), focusing on positive elements instead of negative ones.
Try one (or several) of these ideas and see if your overall outlook becomes a little more positive.
